Every year, the Forest Service hires thousands of temporary (mostly summer) employees for a variety of jobs, most of them in the field. Many positions are advertised on the USAJOBS. Hiring season usually begins the first week of January and may last until mid-March, depending on last minute vacancies.

Each year, the Forest hires for a variety of temporary (seasonal) positions for the summer field season. The field season typically runs from May to September.  Information on seasonal jobs are available.  Temporary (seasonal) work responsibilities include stream surveys, fish and wildlife surveys, trail building, fire fighting, campground maintenance, fence construction and maintenance, vegetation surveys, road maintenance, and heavy equipment operators. 

Once you've identifed a job, make sure you copy down its Open Continuous Register number (OCR #) and location as listed on the outreach notice. This will make your application process go much smoother.

The announcements will not show up in USAJobs.gov until the open date.  After the open date, those wanting to apply can search in USAJobs.gov by the announcement numbers and apply for the positions.
